They flashed routers with the Open Source OpenWRT Linux based firmware." <br> <br>The students used the B.A.T.M.A.N. protocol to create a wireless mesh network for community access. Davis adds that funds for the necessary routers were provided by a grant from the A+ Federal Credit Union's Education Foundation.<br> <br>Students in the SMCISD Newcomer Academies (one at the high school and one at Goodnight Junior High) have typically lived in the United States for less than two years and are English Language Learners.<br><br>"A huge thanks goes out to the A+ Credit Union, Superintendent Dr. Patty Shafer, Assistant Superintendents Dr. Lolly Guerra and Yolanda Almendarez and SMHS principal Michelle Darling," said SMCISD Bilingual/ESL Coordinator Niki Konecki.
